Perpaduan Charity Hike 2025: A Successful Celebration of Unity and Healthy Living

The Perpaduan Charity Hike 2025 successfully concluded on June 29, bringing together an impressive turnout of participants at the Penang Municipal Park (formerly Youth Park). The event achieved its mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle while fostering community spirit and unity among participants of all ages.

Organized by Penang International Hiker's (PIH) and Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP), in collaboration with Kadaram Adventure Club Malaysia and Meronot Adventure Club Penang, the event brought together diverse participants who shared a common goal of promoting fitness and supporting charitable causes.

Remarkable Growth and Achievement

The event demonstrated remarkable growth since its inception in 2023. From 1,000 participants in its first year to 1,700 in 2024, the 2025 edition successfully reached its ambitious target, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for community-based fitness activities in Penang.

State Youth, Sports, and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen had earlier emphasized the event's significance during the March press conference at Komtar, expressing confidence in reaching the 2,500-participant milestone with strong support from MSNPP. The event lived up to these expectations, marking another successful chapter in its history.

Strong Student Participation

One of the highlights of this year's hike was the significant involvement of secondary school students from 25 schools across Penang. With the approval from the Penang State Education Department (JPNPP), student participants earned state-level Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan & Kokurikulum (PAJSK) marks up to 14 points, adding valuable credits to their extracurricular achievements.

PIH Chairman Sim Thean Sang (Jungle Sim), the organizing chairman, had offered special incentives including a 20% discount on registration fees for teachers, students, and parents. The school-based registration rate of RM40, compared to the online rate of RM50, helped encourage greater student participation.

The organizing committee's active school visits across Penang in the months leading up to the event generated overwhelming interest and helped achieve the strong student turnout. The initiative successfully promoted parent-child relationships and encouraged young people to embrace nature and outdoor activities.

Supporting Worthy Charitable Causes

Beyond promoting fitness, the event made a meaningful impact on the community by supporting eight charity homes through fundraising booths. The beneficiary organizations included:

Ru Yi Children's Home
Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged
Penang Ai Charity Centre
Penang Children's Protection Association
Penang Islamic Orphan Welfare Centre
Penang Seri Cahaya Charity Home Association
Crystal Family Home Orphanage

The funds raised through the event provided crucial support to these organizations, helping them continue their valuable work in serving the community's most vulnerable members.

Event Highlights and Participants' Experience

Participants had the choice between 5km and 10km scenic routes through Penang's lush greenery, spanning portions of the Municipal Park and Penang Hill area. The routes offered hikers an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Penang while engaging in healthy physical activity.

Adding to the excitement, participants had the opportunity to win from a pool of lucky draw prizes worth RM20,000. All participants received event T-shirts, refreshments, and electronic certificates, while those who completed the full course were eligible for the lucky draw.

"Hiking is more than just an outdoor activity; it is a way to unite people for a meaningful cause. Through this event, we hope to strengthen community ties while supporting those in need," Jungle Sim had shared, and this vision was fully realized through the event's success.

Organizing Committee and Support

The successful execution of the event was made possible through the dedication of the organizing committee, including Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) director Harry Chai Heng Hua, organizing secretary Christine Cheah Ai Khim, organizing treasurer Pung Toh Ming, and numerous supporting partners.

Unlike competitive races, the Perpaduan Charity Hike focused on promoting healthy and active lifestyles while contributing to charitable causes, creating an inclusive environment where participants of all fitness levels could enjoy the experience together.

With nearly half of the participants being teachers and students, the event successfully achieved its goal of being a meaningful gathering that combined fitness, education, and community service.

Building on the success of the 2025 event, preparations are already underway for the Perpaduan Charity Hike 2026. The organizing committee is committed to continuing this meaningful tradition of promoting unity, health, and charitable giving in the Penang community.
