Malaysian Cyclist Wins At Asian Mountain Bike Championship
Malaysia makes a splash in the international cycling world!
Siti Nur Adiba Mohd Fuad achieved a historic breakthrough with a bronze in the women’s junior cross country at the Asian Mountain Bike Championships.
The 17-year-old completed the 10.4km challenge in Chai Nat, Thailand, on Monday in 37:19. Thai Nathalie Panyawan emerged champion in 34:54 while China’s He Guangji clocked 37:00 to take the silver.

Nur Adiba is the first Malaysian to win an Asian medal in the mountain bike discipline, which is also contested in the Olympics.

The Kedah-born cyclist was delighted to finish ahead of fourth-placed Zhe Qinghua of China and fifth-placed Toshimi Sato of Japan.
“Qinghua and Sato were the favourites to finish on the podium. I hope my bronze will open the eyes of the authorities in Malaysia that there’s a chance for mountain bike to contribute a medal at SEA Games level,” said Nur Adiba.
Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Abu Samah Wahab was pleased with Nur Adiba’s achievement.
“Mountain bike doesn’t get as much allocation as track cycling. Nur Abida went to Chai Nat with minimal preparation and budget.
“To be up there on the podium shows she has the character of a champion. It is good for the country as she is only 17 and can still compete in the junior ranks at the 2017 edition in China,” said Abu Samah.
