Slip on a pair of 'earless' earphones

A PAIR of earphones that do not quite touch the ears?

Well, consumer electronics brand AfterShokz has developed earphones that touch just at the back of the cheekbones, using bone-conduction technology to deliver the sound, technology website CNet reported.

The "earless" earphones do not block other ambient noises, making them useful for runners who pound the streets and need to hear what is going on around them, for safety reasons.

According to CNet, the earphones are lightweight and the sound quality is "surprisingly good" - after one figures out the right placement. However, they do create a slight buzzing sensation at the contact points sometimes, but that is not unpleasant, CNet said.

The earphones are available in sports, gaming, and mobile-communication versions. The sports model retails at US$60 (S$78) while the other two are US$70 each and have in-line microphones, said CNet.
