Penang, Dec 7 — A woman was killed this morning after she reportedly lost control of her bicycle and fell into the traffic lane, where she was struck by an oncoming vehicle along the Penang–Kedah federal road near the Independence Bridge.
The victim, Lee Pei Pin, 47, worked in sales and was the mother of two grown children. She had been cycling with several friends towards Butterworth when the incident occurred at around 9 a.m.
Emergency responders were called to the scene but were unable to save her. Her family later arrived at the hospital mortuary to identify the body and complete the necessary procedures.
Relatives said they were devastated by the sudden loss, describing Lee as still young and in good health. They added that it was difficult to accept how quickly a morning outing had turned into a fatal tragedy.
Her two children were seen visibly distressed after viewing their mother’s remains, with family members assisting them as they left the mortuary. The atmosphere was sombre, with relatives and friends overcome by grief.
Lee, who lived in Taman Cenderawasih, Butterworth, will be brought home for funeral rites. Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident.
